1. Introduction
Matchfilm ("we", "our", "the App") is a social watch-tracking and recommendation application for mobile (Android, iOS, including TV-capable builds) and the web. By using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
2. Data Controller
The data controller is the developer of Matchfilm. For privacy or data requests, contact us at support@matchfilm.app, via "About" in the App, or the Matchfilm website. For GDPR data subject requests, use the same contacts.
3. What Data We Collect and Why
• Account data: email, name, profile picture (if you register with email/password or sign in with Google or Apple). We use this for your account, display name, and avatar in social features.
• Usage data: watch statuses, ratings, reviews, follow relationships, and activity you choose to share—needed for the feed, recommendations, and social features.
• Purchases: if you buy a subscription or other digital item, payment is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play; we use RevenueCat to manage entitlements and subscription state so Pro features work across devices.
• Device / product data: push notification token (if you enable notifications), device type, and app version—for notifications and service reliability.
• Guest onboarding: before you create an account, optional onboarding choices may be stored on your device and can be synced to your account when you sign up.
• Analytics: Firebase Analytics (e.g. screen views and in-app events such as sign-in or onboarding). We record your app language and country/region code from your device locale settings (not GPS). When you are signed in, we may set a Firebase Analytics user ID to your internal account identifier; event parameters are not intended to include your name, email, or profile free text.
• Crash and performance data: Firebase Crashlytics and Performance—may include device model, OS version, and stack traces.
The App does not request access to precise device location (GPS). The App may open trailer playback (YouTube), share links (system share sheet), or handle deep links you tap—only when you use those features.
4. Legal Basis (GDPR)
We process your data on the following bases: (a) contract — to provide the service you requested; (b) consent — where we ask for consent (e.g. push notifications, optional features); (c) legitimate interests — analytics, security, and product improvement where not overridden by your rights; (d) legal obligation — where required by law.
5. Third-Party Services and APIs
The App uses the following third-party services. Their respective privacy policies and terms apply to the data they process:
• The Movie Database (TMDB) API: we use TMDB to display movie and TV metadata, images, videos, and watch-provider data. Use of the App constitutes use of TMDB data subject to TMDB's API Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. TMDB is a third-party provider; we do not control their data practices.
• YouTube: we use the YouTube embedded player to play movie and TV trailers. Video IDs are obtained from TMDB; playback is subject to YouTube's Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
• Firebase (Google): analytics, crash reporting, performance monitoring, and push messaging. Data is processed by Google in accordance with Firebase/Google Privacy Policy.
• Google Sign-In and Apple Sign-In: for authentication. Their privacy policies apply to the data they collect.
• RevenueCat: subscription and in-app purchase infrastructure; processes purchase-related data under its policy.
• Apple App Store / Google Play: payment processing for digital purchases and subscriptions.
• Backend API: our servers (api.matchfilm.app) store your account and activity data to provide the service.
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We may share data only as necessary with the above service providers, or when required by law.

6. Data Retention
We retain your account and activity data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, we immediately anonymize all personal identifiers (name, email, avatar) and mark the account as deactivated. Anonymized activity data (watch history, ratings) may be retained for up to 90 days for fraud prevention and legal compliance, after which it is permanently deleted. We may retain minimal records longer only where required by law (e.g. legal claims, regulatory obligations).
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to: access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict processing, data portability, object to processing, and withdraw consent. To delete your account, use
Settings → Delete account in the App (or the same action where offered, e.g. subscription flows), or follow:
Account deletion. For other requests, contact us (see below). You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
8. Security
We use industry-standard measures (e.g. HTTPS, secure authentication) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EEA). We do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe we have collected such data, contact us and we will delete it.
10. International Transfers
Data may be processed in countries outside your residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards (e.g. standard contractual clauses) where required by law.
11. Changes
We may update this policy. We will change the "Last updated" date and, where required by law, notify you or ask for renewed consent. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
